About Soapstone Countertops

Soapstone is a natural stone composed largely of talc, giving it a soft, smooth texture and a soapy feel that inspired its name. Quarried from regions including Brazil and the United States, soapstone typically appears in muted gray tones that deepen to a rich charcoal with age and oiling. Its dense, non-porous composition makes it naturally resistant to stains, bacteria, and heat, requiring no sealing over its lifetime. While softer than granite or quartzite, minor scratches can be sanded out, and its matte, warm appearance develops a desirable patina over time. Soapstone has long been favored for both traditional farmhouse kitchens and functional laboratory surfaces alike.
